About the South Blooming Grove Fire District
Fully Certified Interior and Exterior Firefighters Providing Fire Suppression and Rescue
The South Blooming Grove Fire District and its volunteer Independence Fire Company have proudly served the community since its formation in 1975. Established to provide faster, more effective fire protection for the residents of the Village and Town of Blooming Grove, our department has grown into one of Orange County’s most experienced volunteer fire organizations.
Operating from a single station, our members protect more than 2,000 homes and businesses across a 17-square-mile fire district. As a 100% volunteer department, our firefighters dedicate countless hours to training, emergency response, fire prevention, and community service—all with one mission: protecting the lives and property of those who live, work, and visit our community.
As part of Orange County’s Battalion 5 Mutual Aid Plan, we work alongside neighboring departments including Washingtonville, Salisbury Mills, Kiryas Joel, Monroe, Chester, Woodbury, and other surrounding communities to provide additional resources whenever needed.
Every member of Independence Fire Company is committed to serving with professionalism, courage, integrity, and compassion while remaining active in community outreach, public education, and fire prevention initiatives.

Leadership of the South Blooming Grove Fire District
The South Blooming Grove Fire District is guided by the leadership of its Board of Fire Commissioners and the operational expertise of the Chief Officers and Independence Fire Company Line Officers. Together, they provide strategic oversight, ensure the department remains properly equipped and funded, and lead our volunteer firefighters with professionalism, experience, and dedication. Their shared commitment helps maintain the highest standards of emergency preparedness, firefighter safety, and community protection.
Our Fire Apparatus
The South Blooming Grove Fire District operates a modern fleet of specialized emergency apparatus designed to protect our community and respond safely to a wide range of emergencies. Our fleet currently includes two engines, one ladder truck, one rescue, one brush truck, one Fire Police vehicle, and three Chief’s vehicles. Each apparatus plays a critical role in providing effective fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency response, and mutual aid throughout Orange County.

Independence Fire Company is proud to be home to more than 100 volunteer members (including 30 active firefighters) from all walks of life. Our membership includes firefighters, tradespeople, business owners, healthcare professionals, students, and retired public servants—including many current and former members of the FDNY.
Whether you have previous experience or are completely new to the fire service, there is a place for you. We provide all required training, state-certified instruction, protective equipment, and ongoing support.

Independence Fire Company of The South Blooming Grove Fire Department is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission statement is to protect life and property. We rely on the community through the small district budget, door-to-door donations, grants, and fundraisers. Since formation in Since 1975, Independence Fire Company has proudly operated as a 100% volunteer, IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the lives and property of our community.
In addition to district funding, we rely on the generosity of residents, local businesses, grants, and community fundraising efforts to help purchase specialized equipment, enhance firefighter training, and maintain the resources necessary to provide the highest level of emergency service. Every donation directly supports our mission of protecting the South Blooming Grove Fire District.
Looking for a venue for your next event? Our meeting hall is available to rent for weddings, parties, meetings, and special occasions. Rental proceeds directly benefit the fire department while providing the community with a convenient and affordable event space.
