About South Blooming Grove Fire District & Department

The South Blooming Grove Fire District is the governing entity responsible for providing fire protection services to the residents of the district. It is led by an elected Board of Fire Commissioners consisting of five commissioners and a district secretary. Together, they oversee the district’s finances, budget, facilities, apparatus, capital improvements, and long-term planning.

The Board establishes policies, approves expenditures, and ensures the department has the resources necessary to provide professional emergency services. While the Commissioners are responsible for the administration and governance of the district, operational decisions at emergency incidents remain under the command of the Fire Department’s Chief Officers.

The South Blooming Grove Fire Department is responsible for all emergency operations within the district. The department is led by the Chief of Department and Assistant Chiefs, who are elected by the Independence Fire Company and are appointed by the Board of Fire Commissioners. The Fire Department Chiefs oversee fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency response, training, and firefighter safety.

During emergency incidents, the Chief Officers are responsible for directing operations, coordinating resources, and ensuring every response is handled safely, efficiently, and professionally.

The Independence Fire Company is the volunteer membership organization that serves the South Blooming Grove Fire District. Made up of more than 100 dedicated volunteers (including 30+ active firefighters), the company is led by a Captain and Line Officers who oversee the day-to-day activities of the membership, apparatus assignments, training participation, and firefighter development.

Working closely with the Department’s Chief Officers, the Line Officers supervise firefighters, maintain operational readiness, and help ensure every member is prepared to respond whenever the community calls.
